What's this?
RightMoon.com is a personal project of Melissa Casey José. Notoriously negligent when it comes to staying in touch with friends and family, I have long been interested in keeping some sort of weblog to let interested parties know how it's all going. Previous attempts at such have landed somewhere between "utter failure" and "nice try". RightMoon.com is new and different.
New? Different? What's that supposed to mean?
No more self-editing. No more just writing because I think I'm supposed to. RightMoon is an extension of my personal resolve to being myself rather than the person I think I am/was "supposed to be". For so much of my life I have put incredible limitations and expectations of perfection (phoo!) on myself, which only served to stifle my personal and creative life. RightMoon is all about where I am at this moment. Sometimes it's pretty, sometimes it's not. The only rule is that it be true. Honest.
Okay, great. But what's it about?
The "blog" portion is for daily(ish) journal entries. There is no specific topic, but some of my favorite things to talk about are singing, knitting, making things, fixing things, living in NYC, reading, and raising Zooey. Sometimes it will be about other things.
There will be a portion of the site dedicated to crafty things I've made. Sometimes there will be instructions on how to make these things in the comfort of your own home.
Eventually there will be an entire "Melissa Casey Jose, Opera Singer" section, where there will be updates on my professional exploits and instructions on how to hear me and/or hire me.
And finally! I am expanding "RightMoonPapers" into a professional endeavor where I create and sell handmade invitations and cards. More news on that very soon.
What's up with the name "Right Moon"?
My Grandpa never called us by our real names. Everyone had a nickname (my cousins and brother were/are: Wag, Oren, Eureka, Sunshine, S.A.R.A, Turtle Man, and Cowboy Bomb.), and mine was Moon. Grandpa's standard greeting was to grab me by the ear and say "Right Moon?". He wouldn't let go of your ear until you answered "Right." It was a ritual that happened over and over again. Now that Gramps is gone, it's sort of my tribute to him... It was either that or "Get The Moon and bite The Moon's butt", and I think I chose correctly.
So does this mean you'll answer my emails now?
Maybe. Maybe not. But I will be sending out regular(ish) updates via email every couple(ish) of weeks. Some of the content will be from this site, some of it will be general info about the site, some of it will undoubtedly be a surprise to all of us. You can sign up for the mailing list here.
