Other Funsy Projects

Marble Magnets

I made these based on Megan's instructions at Not Martha .

Handmade Memory Book

My mom turned 50 in February, so I knew the gift had to be above average. I conspired with other family members to assemble a great selection of pictures from the last 50 years. Along with the pictures, I printed quotes (ranging from funny stuff to inspirational) and added some other pop-culture references. For the "uplifting suprise" element, some of Mom's biggest fans wrote letters extolling her virtues, which were added to the book in handmade envelopes. I made the book completely from scratch (hand-binding, etc), and it was a big hit. The actual book is beautiful...the pictures of the book here not so much.

Cross Stitch Boy

When my brother was born (1981) my grandmother started this project for him. She never completed it, and when the next boy-child was born (in 2002 - my cousin Ali's son Benjamin), Grandma picked this project up again to give to the new little one. Unfortunately, Grandma died unexpectedly only a month after Benjamin was born. Having proudly inherited Grandma's craftiness and craft supplies, I finished this cross stitch piece. The whole time I wondered why the little boy has one red toenail... Grandma's little secret, I guess.
