But I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that today is Samhain* ("This celebration marks the New Year and is a time for remembering the dead and honoring the Crone Goddess. It is also the final festival of the harvest season."). Time to celebrate your loved ones passed and yet to come, and welcome the new season.
*lest you try to peg my religious or political preferences based on this observance, don't forget that the Christians converted these holidays into their own observances. Samhain, All Saints Day, All Soul's; A rose by any other name...
Posted by rightmoon at October 31, 2005 01:26 PMhow about "day of commemoration of the faithful departed"? technically it's wednesday, but close enough to count. days of the dead can be so festive for our south american neighbors, partying down in the cemeteries and flamboyantly decorating graves. samhain is also considered a season where the portal between this world and then next is very thin, enabling us to communicate with the dead more easily, causing many people to cross over without struggle. in my experience, that has been especially true.
