James (age 5): "When I grow up, I'm going to be Batman AND Spiderman. You CAN be two things, you know."
(45 minutes later, after stepping off the bus): "When I grow up, I'm going to be a bus driver and a policeman. But only if I get to drive a big police van. If not, I'll only be a bus driver."
(two hours later): "When I grow up I'm going to be a barber or a person who brushes the teeth of killer whales."
You've got to love the enthusiasm. Kids see such endless possibilities... what a needed inspiration (for me).
Posted by: Brandi at September 16, 2005 09:21 AMWhen I used to substute as a teacher and the kids found out that I was a nurse,gender specific job stereo-types were busted.I told the children that you can be whatever you want to and gender does not matter.Their eyes would open wide as the questions poured forth.Plant a seed and watch it grow.Now where did I put that sack of seeds..................
