MaryW passed on this MusicSurvey a few weeks ago, and I'm only now getting to it (after the entire Internet population has already completed and passed it on...). In any case, here's a glimpse into the current state of affairs.
Total volume of music on your computer:
Way too much considering it's already been transferred to the ipod... 1309 songs, 3.7 days, 5.26GB
The last album you purchased was:
Coldpay - X&Y
Before that (both of which I highly recommend):
Green Day - American Idiot
Beck- Guero
Song playing right now
“Positive Tension” - Bloc Party
Five songs you’ve been listening to a lot recently, from several genres:
“Hollbaback Girl” - Gwen Stefani
Okay, I think this is a really ridiculous song (B-A-N-A-N-A-S), but in search of an early-summer anthem, this one seems to have lodged in my head. It's like the "Hey Mickey" of the new generation, and that can't be all bad...
“Just Like Heaven” – The Cure
I think I've listened to this song at least once a week for the last 12+ years, and now is no exception. This is one of Bear and my "songs", so it always makes me smile.
“Sugar Magnolia (Europe '72 version)” - The Grateful Dead
It's hot and sunny outside, everything is in bloom. Isn't everyone listening to this song right now?
“Bongo Bong” – Manu Chow
Has a good beat. You can dance to it. I love this song; it makes me move and sing (in that chill speak-sing way), and I feel so continental when I sing along in French at the end.
“Casta Diva” – Maria Callas
Yum. That voice, not technically beautiful to my ear, so raw and dripping with emotion. It makes me cry, or melt, or go open up a score and practice harder.
Honorable mentions:
"Hit Me Baby One More Time" - Britney Spears (best pop song ever)
"Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" - Jay-Z
"Hedwig and the Angry Inch" (the original cast album gets played alot around here)
Anything Johnny Cash or Elvis
Now I'm passing the baton to Mom and BJ. What have you been listening to?
The new CD "Mafia" by The Black Label Society is great.Pride and Glory CD by Zakk Wyldes really good too.Have you ever heard of WAYNAY from Peru(the country)? They play in San Antonio at malls and street markets. They are more Andean Fusion/Pan Flute.I guess you don't get much Tejano or Charro in your area either.
Posted by: genghis-jon at June 9, 2005 08:34 AMYou know I don't respond kindly to being called B.J.!
Posted by: Brian at June 9, 2005 10:24 PMnow, now...i'm sure she meant c.j.---that's my code name. at any rate all my downloaded stuff is on the old computer, so answer #1 is zero. the last cd i bought was a gift for my daughter. i'm currently listening to coldplay, a gift from my son-in-law, a rush of blood to the head, particularly--God put a smile on your face and playing now is the scientist. i've recently jumped around from the saturday night live soundtrack (stayin' alive), seussical the musical (solla sollew/anything's possible) and a Big Band compilation (it's been a long, long time). as the family knows, i'm listening to my collection from a to z, but i can jump out of order for soundtracks, musicals, compilations. i'll be moving through harry connick to ry cooder to chick corea to elvis costello to complete the c's. you asked.
Posted by: mom at June 9, 2005 11:11 PMwait, i meant saturday night fever....but you knew that..and yes, i do dance...
Posted by: mom at June 9, 2005 11:21 PMTotal Volume of Music:
3,297 Songs, 9 Days, 11.97 GB
Last Album Purchased:
Hmm... don't purchase whole albums that often anymore, but two that I've been contemplating are Monkey Business by the Black Eyed Peas and the cast album of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Song Playing Right Now:
Being the reality TV junkie that I am, Fly Girl by JFK Holla (which is the runway music for Kara Sahn's final runway show for Project Runway on Bravo)
5 Songs You've Been Listening To A Lot:
1. Banana Pancakes- Jack Johnson
Feel good, Sunday morning song.
2. A Tale- La Nouba Cast Recording
Just got back from Vegas and watched tons of Cirque Du Soleil shows. This song is so chill.
3.Cosmic Dancer- T-Rex
"Lads do football, or boxin, or wrestlin- not friggin ballet."
4. Gone- Kelly Clarkson
Since this year's American Idol sucked, I revert back to our original. One of her best cuts from Breakaway.
5. Caribbean Blue- Enya
Wisk me off to a tropical island for the Summer! Or a pool will suffice.
